Putin linked internet shutdowns to work to “prevent terrorist attacks.” According to him, they happen “infrequently” and only in “large megacities”

He said this during a meeting with members of the Russian government, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, “some problems and disruptions in internet service in large megacities” happen “infrequently,” but “unfortunately, they do happen.”

“Of course, if this (restrictions on internet service — ed. note) is connected with operational work to prevent terrorist acts — and we know that, unfortunately, we sometimes let such strikes through — then, of course, ensuring people’s safety will always be the priority: our children, loved ones, every citizen of Russia,” Vladimir Putin noted.
