In Tuva, participants in the SMO will start being awarded the Order of Subedei, the Mongol commander and one of Genghis Khan’s closest associates.
The Supreme Khural of Tuva has passed amendments to the regional law on state awards, establishing the Order of Subedei.
It will be awarded “for exceptional merit in defending the Fatherland, courage and bravery shown in defending Russia’s territorial integrity and interests, as well as for special merit in the field of security.” This order will become the region’s second most important award after the Order of the Republic of Tyva.
According to legend, Subedei was born on the territory of Tyva. Together with Jebe, he led the Mongol army during the campaign to the Azov region in 1223, defeating the Rus’ army at the Kalka River, and also exercised de facto command during the campaigns of 1237-1240, in which the Rus’ principalities were conquered and Kyiv and Vladimir were devastated.
An Award for Defense With Bad History
Tuva created the Order of Subedei for SMO participants.
Defenders get a medal named for a conqueror of Rus principalities.
