In Irkutsk Region, a Yabloko candidate’s banner with the slogan “For peace and freedom” was taken down at the demand of a United Russia mayor

Pavel Kharitonenko, a single-mandate candidate from the Yabloko party in the State Duma elections, said that the mayor of Baikalsk in Irkutsk Region, United Russia member Vasily Temgenevsky, is obstructing his campaigning.

According to Kharitonenko,

Temgenevsky called business owners and demanded that they remove his campaign banner with the slogan “For peace and freedom,” which had been hanging at the local market since August 11.

No arguments that this was official campaign material, that the election commission had been notified about it, and that it was paid for from the candidate’s election account and therefore was lawful, could make him see reason.

Pavel Kharitonenko is one of three Yabloko candidates registered in Irkutsk Region for the State Duma in single-mandate districts.

The party’s federal list was removed from the election to the lower house of parliament by the Supreme Court.

In total, Yabloko has nominated 126 candidates in single-mandate districts across all of Russia.
