The government will allow SIM card contracts to be terminated only 90 days after they are signed. This is a new anti-fraud measure

The Russian government has added to its bill on combating cyberfraud a measure aimed at the use of “disposable” SIM cards.

RBC reports this, citing Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko.

Under the amendments, a communications service contract may be terminated only 90 days after it is signed. The authors of the amendments believe that this will prevent fraudsters from quickly getting rid of SIM cards.

According to Grigorenko, ordinary customers will not face difficulties or extra charges: “The operator will stop charging the subscription fee if the user notifies it that they want to отказаться от услуг связи.”

Anti-Fraud by Locking Everyone In

A SIM contract cannot be ended before 90 days.

Fraud is tackled by trapping the customer first.
