A cache containing firearms and ammunition was discovered in a wooded area near Berlin, German media reported.
Spiegel writes that the cache was actually found last year and became the subject of an "intensive" investigation by Germany’s state security agencies and counterintelligence.
Police modified the weapons that were found, making them unusable. After that, the cache was kept under surveillance for several months, but no one appeared nearby.
German intelligence services suspect that the stockpile was created on instructions from Russian intelligence services. It is reported that one of the suspects in the case has already been detained in Romania.
According to Spiegel, German investigators are examining possible links between the weapons cache and a sabotage campaign against Ukrainian logistics lines that Russian intelligence services are believed to be carrying out.
