At the Cannes Film Festival, “Minotaur,” Andrey Zvyagintsev’s new film, premiered. The director’s previous work came out nine years ago; in the meantime, Zvyagintsev moved to France, where he underwent rehabilitation after severe последствия coronavirus, and when Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, the director decided not to return. Filmed in Riga, “Minotaur” is the first feature film to grapple with the era of the “special military operation” seriously and uncompromisingly.

Film critic Anton Dolin writes about the work:

“To call ‘Minotaur’ an anti-war film would be an understatement. Yet it is not a poster or an act of protest, but a complex work of art. War is presented here as an evil close to absolute. But the film is not about immoral politicians or (heaven forbid) a ‘bad people,’ but about the moral choice that a person sometimes makes without fully realizing it, forever changing their life”
