Russian authorities have decided to postpone the introduction of an additional fee for international traffic (including VPNs) — RBC

RBC’s sources said that the Russian authorities decided to postpone the introduction of an additional fee for consuming more than 15 gigabytes of international traffic per month.

Initially, this fee was planned to be introduced by May 1.

According to the outlet’s sources, shifting the deadline closer to autumn or until after the State Duma elections is being discussed (they will take place from September 18 to 20).

It became known at the end of March that the Ministry of Digital Development, on Vladimir Putin’s instructions, had asked telecom operators at one of the meetings to charge customers for traffic when using VPN services. The idea was to introduce, from May 1, a fee for using more than 15 gigabytes of international traffic per month. VPN traffic appears to operators as foreign traffic.
