Russia sent notes to the diplomatic agencies of all countries asking them to ban demonstrations outside embassies on the day of the State Duma elections, Maksim Ryder, deputy chairman of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s election commission, said.

According to him, in these notes Moscow asks them to “take adequate measures to protect polling stations, including banning demonstrations on election day.” How such protests threaten voting security was not specified.

Russia expects its international obligations to be conscientiously fulfilled abroad, but it itself “will not just sit idly by,” Ryder added.

Elections for deputies of the 9th convocation of the State Duma will take place over three days, from September 18 to 20.

The Peaceful Russia party, led by politician Ilya Yashin, proposed holding an anti-war action on the main voting day in the State Duma elections, September 20. The party proposed that “everyone who disagrees with the policy pursued by Putin” vote at exactly 12:00.
