At least one institute employee, researcher of ancient philosophy Svetlana Mesyats, was placed under house arrest.

Investigative actions began on the morning of May 19: people in balaclavas came to the homes of institute employees and then to the building of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences itself.

The conflict around the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences has continued since 2021, when the Ministry of Science and Higher Education appointed Anatoly Chernyaev acting director without elections. Later the conflict took on a political character: Chernyaev criticized employees who did not support the war in Ukraine.
