Recruiters are luring Russian residents into military service by promising that they supposedly will not take part in active combat operations, although in reality they are being asked to sign a standard combined-arms contract. One such ad, “Cooks needed for rear-line troops (not assault!),” was illustrated with a photograph of a resident of Krasnoyarsk Krai. He was mobilized, ended up at the front, and was wounded. “Ads like that are deception. They go to the enlistment office to be rear-line troops in the ‘SMO,’ and in the end they wind up in assault operations,” he told journalists.
