"The nightingales here sing divinely beautifully!" politician Alexander Shestun writes from the hospital. At the end of March, while in custody, he began a hunger strike, lost 24 kilograms, and ended up in a hospital bed in critical condition.
"On May 8, I was hospitalized, and I immediately began coming off the hunger strike. But unlike previous hunger strikes, my body is refusing to take in proteins, it is rejecting them, and now my ankles are swollen," Shestun says. "All my organs have gone crazy and are competing over which is bigger: my stomach, intestines, kidneys, heart, pancreas, bladder, prostate gland, liver, and so on."
