Foreign Intelligence Service chief Sergey Naryshkin said that “meetings between the intelligence services of different countries are standard practice” and added that he discussed with the CIA chief “issues that fall within the competence of the intelligence services,” TASS writes.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that one of the goals of Ratcliffe’s visit was to warn Moscow against attacks on NATO countries. According to the publication, U.S. intelligence considers it possible that Russia may in the coming years try to test the alliance’s resolve, including through a limited attack on one of the member states.

In response, Peskov said that claims about the possibility of Russia attacking one of the NATO countries have nothing to do with Moscow’s intentions.

Later, Trump said that the visit was connected neither to possible Russian actions against NATO nor to sanctions against Iran, calling the trip “semi-routine” and linking it to Washington’s efforts to settle the war in Ukraine.
