The new prosecutor general, swaying at the podium of the Federation Council, told senators that granting legal authority for total searches of citizens’ phones would make the work of punitive bodies much more effective.

All dissenters and not-yet-exposed “foreign agents” could be identified in batches and immediately tortured, pressured, and imprisoned.

Moreover, in his view, the right to hack and penetrate personal records would ease the “hard” work of FSB officers, police, and other internal enforcers.

In addition, the right to pour molten lead down throats, use torture devices, and break detainees’ fingers would make the work of the “organs” even more engaging and productive.

He has not yet mentioned installing racks in every police station. Yet.

Prosecutor General proposes giving security forces access to mobile device data without a court order

Russia’s Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan said that granting law enforcement agencies extrajudicial access to citizens’ mobile device data could simplify operational investigative work. He stated this while presenting a report in the Federation Council.

The proposal concerns access to the Central Database of User Equipment Identifiers, which contains information on SIM cards, IMEI numbers of smartphones, tablets, and other devices, as well as their linkage to owners.
