Russia is preparing for the parliamentary elections in Armenia by banning imports of flowers, mineral water, and brandy

Moscow has repeatedly, under various pretexts, imposed restrictions on imports of goods from countries with which its relations were deteriorating. Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized Armenia’s current prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, for what they see as a pro-Western course.

Russia has already banned supplies from Armenia of flowers, mineral water, and alcoholic beverages from three producers. Armenian vegetables and fruit could also fall under the ban, according to Sergei Dankvert, the head of Rosselkhoznadzor. Commenting on the bans, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that this had happened before. He hopes that Armenia and Russia will be able to “discuss the situation constructively and find the right solutions.”
