Vladimir Putin came up with a new justification for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He explained it using the food chain example of “orca and polar bear.” He brought it up during a meeting with teachers held for Knowledge Day.

Teacher Dmitry Balanchukov from Belgorod Region was talking about how he had traveled to the North Pole. Putin asked the teacher whether he had seen polar bears there. And then he suddenly said that “orcas eat bears like small fry,” attacking them in packs. This metaphor, Putin believes, should be given to children at school so they understand “why we are conducting the special military operation.”
