Navalny’s Lawyer Igor Sergunin Released

Navalny’s lawyer Igor Sergunin has been released

Today he left SIZO-1 detention center in Vladimir.

In January 2025, Sergunin was sentenced to 3.5 years in a penal colony. He was found guilty of participating in an extremist community because he had provided legal services to Navalny while Navalny was held at IK-2 in Pokrov.

The lawyer had been in custody since October 2023. Unlike the other defendants in the case, he pleaded guilty.

The case against Navalny’s lawyers

Two other defendants remain in penal colonies — lawyers Vadim Kobzev and Alexey Liptser, who also represented Navalny at various times. Kobzev was sentenced to 5.5 years in a penal colony, and Liptser to 5 years. They were found guilty under the same article.

Security officials claimed that the lawyers used their status to gain access to the colony where the politician was held in order to pass information “between the leaders and members of the extremist community and Navalny.”
