Unexpectedly. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Anton Siluanov at the G20 finance ministers' summit in Asheville, North Carolina.
▪️Bessent insisted on Trump's peace plan\ for Ukraine; they also discussed economic development, NBC News insider Julie Tsirkin says.
▪️Europeans reacted to the meeting with rejection; Germany even viewed it as an insult to Ukraine, The New York Times insider Jim Tankersley says.
▪️Europeans protested Siluanov's presence at the meeting. German Foreign Minister Lars Klingbeil initiated a boycott of the group photo with Siluanov. It appears the boycott worked: Siluanov skipped the joint photo session, Tankersley says.

\Some publics have written that Bessent insisted on Trump's 28-point peace plan. So far I do not see information that they were talking about that very 28-point peace plan that Driscoll brought to Kyiv in November and that pushed Ukraine toward surrendering Donbas. Let me remind you that that plan was later revised into a version acceptable to Ukraine. For now, I do not see that they were talking specifically about the first version of the plan, the one that was bad for Ukraine.
I will keep you informed about developments.
Talks Made It Only to Photos
Bessent met Siluanov, and Europe torpedoed the group photo.
Objections worked only when cameras arrived.
