One of HSE University's best mathematics instructors was sent to a penal colony for 3.5 years over donations to the FBK

Andrei Dymov sent his last donation 5 years ago.

The Zyuzinsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Andrei Dymov, an associate professor at the Faculty of Mathematics of HSE University and an employee of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, to 3.5 years in a penal colony in a case over donations to the FBK, publication T-Invariant reports.

Dymov was found guilty under the article on financing extremist activity (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code), and he was taken into custody in the courtroom. According to a T-Invariant source, Dymov sent his last donation to the FBK in 2021.

Mediazona writes that Dymov unsubscribed from donations in early August 2021 and in total sent 3,500 rubles to the Anti-Corruption Foundation. In court, he admitted guilt.

They took him away a month ago in a showy fashion. People in masks broke down the door to his apartment. Then they let him go for some time under a travel restriction,

a T-Invariant interlocutor said.

🔵The HSE website states that Dymov began working at the university in 2015; in 2022, 2024, and 2025 he was recognized as the university's best instructor. In addition, Dymov had a bonus for publications in academic journals and a commendation from the Faculty of Mathematics.

🔵By this spring, at least 225 criminal cases on "financing extremism" had been opened in Russia over donations to the FBK made after the foundation was banned in the summer of 2021, Mediazona calculated.
