The Foreign Ministry’s statements about strikes on military targets in Kyiv are “absolute nonsense,” because if the Russian army knew where those targets were in Ukraine’s capital, it would have attacked them long ago, political scientist Dmitry Oreshkin said on TV Rain’s broadcast:

What we are seeing now is the destruction of the city as a human habitat. We see strikes hitting shopping centers, museums, residential buildings, anything at all. The decision-making centers have not been affected. And it is clear why: because they were quite skillfully covered, moved out, protected. This is about destroying the city. It is a sign of desperation, because there is simply nothing [else] left to do: Putin is failing to cope with the main task of a president and commander-in-chief: to set a clear goal and organize all resources to achieve that goal.

In the political scientist’s view, Putin “flew into a rage” not because of the strike on Starobilsk, but because of the attack on occupied Henichesk in Kherson region. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that an FSB staff headquarters in Henichesk had been hit.

“What else can they respond with? Well, only with a total strike on Kyiv. This is obvious barbarism. And the fact that Western diplomats responded to the statements of Mr. Lavrov and Ms. Zakharova in such harsh terms, more than ever before, shows that they, too, are sick of it. It seems to me that Putin, Putin’s policy, and Putin’s war in Europe no longer provoke either fear or a desire to negotiate, but a feeling of disgust. And that feeling will apparently keep growing,” Oreshkin said.

🔵Yesterday, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová called the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement about strikes on Kyiv “a masterpiece of hypocrisy,” stressing that “a regime that for years has bombed residential buildings, museums, maternity hospitals, schools, and power stations has now suddenly started talking about ‘international humanitarian law’ and the ‘Geneva Conventions.’”
