In Moscow, the editor-in-chief of the independent outlet Sapa, Alina Dzhikaeva, was detained

She is suspected of allegedly bribing an officer from the duty unit of the Makhachkala police in exchange for information about incidents in North Ossetia and Dagestan that contained personal data. Investigators say the amount exceeded 250,000 rubles.

The day before, a search was conducted in the outlet’s office in Makhachkala. Six journalists detained during the search and two employees of the Eyes Tour travel agency located in the same building as Sapa were later released. However, the nature of the case remains unclear.

“The wording about claims related to an event that allegedly took place in 2020 raises questions. If so, it again raises the question of why all editorial staff were taken away, since the outlet did not yet exist at that time — Sapa was founded in March 2023,” the editorial team noted.
