It’s important for us to stay in touch with you! That’s why we came up with a hackathon. Here are the solutions we want to develop

➡️ Track 1. INFRA & CHANNELS

Problem: Because of blocks, sometimes there is no connection in critical moments, when advice from human rights defenders or the involvement of a lawyer is needed. Those few minutes can cost at least nerves, and sometimes freedom.

How we’ll solve it: We want it to be possible to reach us always and everywhere — and for us to know exactly whom to send help to and where. To do that, we need to be able to quickly and effectively connect new communication channels to the helpdesk system we use to process requests, and link message flows inside it. For example, we plan to connect Signal, Delta Chat, Matrix, Briar, SimpleX, Session, and whatever appears tomorrow.

➡️ Track 2. DATA & AI

Problem: Every month, hundreds of people contact us. Tracking trends in these requests allows us to change in time and adapt our assistance to new conditions. But analyzing them without using AI is becoming increasingly difficult.

How we’ll solve it: We want to build fast and lightweight analytics and triage for these requests using AI, and it is important for us to do this safely — because we work with sensitive data that could become the basis for new persecutions.

➡️ Track 3. HACK & MEDIA

Problem: The authorities are herding Russians onto controlled platforms (hello, Max messenger) so that they communicate, read news, do business, and entertain themselves only there and only in the way decided by people in uniform.

How we’ll solve it: In this track, we are open to any ideas, whether that looks like a media campaign against using Max, a new app or patches for open-source systems, a hub with real-time information on bypassing blocks, or creative technical ways to distribute uncensored information. The main thing is that the solutions must be grounded in reality. That is why we will create a simulation of real blocking conditions in Russia and organize bridges with those who live in the country.
