📹 A Ukrainian girl abducted from occupied Kherson is living with the family of A Just Russia leader Sergey Mironov. In Russia, her first name, last name, and even place of birth were changed. And her legal foster mother has been fighting for her daughter for the fifth year already
🔵 Margarita Prokopenko was ten months old when she was taken from a Kherson children’s home in 2022. According to investigative reports, the girl was taken to Russia by Mironov’s wife Inna Varlamova and Russia’s current human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova. Later, the child was adopted and renamed Marina Mironova.
🔵 But Margarita already had a family. Even before the war, Darina Repina had obtained guardianship over her biological sister Anya, and after the younger girl was born, she began collecting documents to take her in as well.
🔵 Darina visited Margarita in the hospital and at the orphanage, took courses for guardians of infants, and prepared her home for the child’s arrival. In February 2022, the paperwork was almost complete, and then the war began.
🔵 All this time, Darina has been trying to get her daughter back: she sends official requests to the Russian authorities, appeals to world leaders, and writes Margarita letters “for when she grows up,” which she believes the girl will one day read.
➡️ Novaya-Europe’s correspondent spoke with Darina Repina about how the war separated two sisters and why she has been fighting for her younger daughter for the fifth year already.
