The Digital Development Ministry has updated the requirements for the system of operational-search activities (SORM) and expanded the list of data that telecom operators are required to hand over to the security forces. This was reported by Kommersant, which reviewed the ministry’s order.

Under the new rules, at the request of law enforcement agencies operators must provide subscribers’ passport and address data, banking details, IP addresses, geolocation, logins, domain names, and taxpayer identification numbers.

The Digital Development Ministry said the changes are necessary "to ensure security and conduct operational-search activities."

The updated requirements concern the configuration of the equipment of "information dissemination organizers" for interaction with SORM, the system that security agencies use to wiretap phone calls and intercept internet traffic.

As Kommersant notes, telecom operators will need to modernize their equipment, at a cost starting at no less than 5 million rubles.
