The outlet reports this, citing sources among the military.

According to Fontanka, Kiyko, who was sentenced to 25 years for the murders and rapes of women but signed a contract with the Defense Ministry in 2024 when he still had seven years left to serve, is indeed on the federal wanted list.

This happened after a criminal case was opened against him for unauthorized abandonment of his unit following a pre-investigation check.

However, the military believes that since late December 2025 Kiyko has been listed as missing in action while carrying out a combat assignment. According to the outlet’s sources, several drones struck the trench where Kiyko was among those present, and eyewitnesses confirm this.

According to Fontanka, the trigger for the military investigation may have been a phone call from a citizen who saw someone resembling Kiyko.

Andrey Kiyko’s mother confirmed to the outlet that on December 26, 2025, she received a certificate about the circumstances of her son’s disappearance.

“Yesterday the term ended, the half-year since he went missing. I’m going to the military enlistment office with this certificate, the deadlines have already passed. Even if someone is running around with his documents, he is disabled. He could not have run from there to here. Why is he being searched for? He was still at his position in December,” she noted.

The woman says her son’s documents were regularly lost when he was sent for treatment, once in Moscow and two or three times in Kronstadt.

“He only sent photographs from the hospital, he never abandoned anything without permission. And the last time, on October 23, people from his unit came to pick him up from Kronstadt,” she added.
