Ukrainian police: Journalist Viktoria Roshchyna had her occipital bone broken in the Taganrog pretrial detention center

Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna had her occipital bone broken while she was being held captive in Taganrog detention center No. 2.

This was reported by Dmytro Shevchuk, head of the department investigating crimes committed in conditions of armed conflict at the Main Investigative Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine.

According to him, Viktoria was subjected to constant violence because she demanded normal detention conditions and also refused to sing the Russian anthem.

It is reported that she was kept in a cell with unsanitary conditions, where there was no hot water and only three minutes were allotted for meals. From morning until lights out, sitting or lying down was forbidden.

🔵Viktoria Roshchyna stopped communicating with her colleagues at the outlet «Ukrainska Pravda» on August 3, 2023. At the time of her disappearance, she was preparing a report from Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia.

🔵Roshchyna's death became known on October 10, 2024. Notice of her death was sent to the journalist's father.

🔵According to human rights defenders, Roshchyna spent about five months in solitary confinement in Taganrog detention center No. 2. Captives who were held in that detention center said that the facility's staff torture prisoners with rubber batons, a wooden mallet, and electric shockers.

🔵In April 2025, Roshchyna's body was returned to Ukraine bearing signs of torture and missing some internal organs.
