Yesterday, a video appeared in which the chief physician of the Phoenix Treatment and Rehabilitation Research Center, speaking at the Congress of Psychiatrists of Russia, talked about “transgender spectrum disorder.” Among these disorders, she listed five “diseases,” including homosexuality and “fetishistic transvestism.”

TV Rain spoke about this with social psychologist and Columbia University professor Svetlana Komissaruk.

We asked whether modern psychiatry considers transsexuality and homosexuality to be mental illnesses. Can such statements by a psychiatrist be regarded as a scientific position, or are they a political statement?
