The Petrozavodsk City Court fined Dmitry Rybakov one thousand rubles under the article on distributing extremist symbols.
The reason was 2020 posts about the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, in which Rybakov criticized the reaction of the Russian authorities. The posts had been deleted.
Before the court hearing, the deputy was detained and kept overnight at a police station.
Rybakov is the head of the Yabloko faction in the Petrozavodsk city council, a member of the party’s federal bureau, and an Honored Scientist of Russia.
Now, because of the court ruling that has entered into force, he loses the right to take part in elections for one year.
