The FSB said the “Yarovaya package” is only 80% implemented. And that is not enough to “protect the population under the conditions of the SMO”

The “Yarovaya law” is currently operating at 80%, but that is “not enough to protect the population under the conditions of the ongoing SMO,” Alexander Samoylov, a representative of the FSB’s 12th Center, said at the KROS-26 forum, as noted by Verstka.

“At present, Yarovaya has been implemented, well, let’s be honest, by about 80 percent. That is a lot, but not enough to protect the population under the conditions of the ongoing SMO,” he said.

Samoylov explained that after the “Yarovaya package” was adopted in 2016, there was a period when work plans were being drawn up with operators of different sizes. All of this was supposed to be completed by 2022, but “external events” got in the way.

“First the pandemic began, and the first thing the Ministry of Digital Development did was slow the expansion of DWH systems (data storage systems). Then the SMO began,” he said.

Samoylov said that the Ministry of Digital Development is being held “seriously” accountable at all levels for the security and resilience of communications, which must be ensured in part by small operators and which may suffer amid attacks by “ill-wishers.”

🟪The State Duma adopted the “Yarovaya package” in 2016. Under it, telecom operators are required to store user data, including private correspondence, for six months.
