Officially: Sweden Announces Free Transfer of 16 Fighter Jets to Ukraine...

⚡️🇸🇪🇺🇦Officially: Sweden has announced the free transfer to Ukraine of 16 JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets in the C/D variant and the sale of up to 20 fighter jets in the E/F variant for €2.5 billion.

According to Prime Minister Kristersson, the C/D "Gripens" will appear in Ukraine in early 2027 (Zelensky said he is counting on 10 months). The E/F "Gripens" are a more distant prospect.

This has been an incredibly long saga. The fight for the "Gripens" began back in January 2024. At first they were tied to "Sweden's" accession to NATO, which Viktor Orban blocked for a long time. Then it turned out they were being blocked by both US administrations, Biden's and Trump's. Finally, in October 2025, Ukraine and Sweden signed a memorandum on the sale of "Gripens," but for that there had to be a decision on frozen Russian assets, and that was again being blocked by Hungary.

Now all the barriers have finally been removed. And yes, you can consider that Russia is paying for Sweden's "Gripens" for Ukraine with its own money, because the €90 billion European loan was issued to Ukraine after the indefinite freeze of Russian assets, whose return will only be possible if Russia pays reparations.

And yes, 16 C/D "Gripens" are a gift from Sweden. Initially, the discussion was only about E/F "Gripens" in the long term. But the Swedes, looking at the current situation, decided to support Ukrainian aviation with the second-latest model until the newest E/Fs appear.

Why exactly the "Gripens" are considered the ideal model for Ukraine was explained at one time by "Mykolaivskyi Vanyok." In short, because of the optimal balance of price, characteristics, ease of maintenance, and weapons assortment.

Unfortunately, C/D variant "Gripens" are not carriers of Meteor missiles; for those, we will have to wait for the E/Fs to appear. (The "Meteors" are truly a game changer, without exaggeration, these are breakthrough air-to-air missiles that will make it possible to shoot down Russian glide-bomb carriers far behind the front line).

Upd. I apologize for the mistake, "Meteors" really can be mounted on C/D variant "Gripens," and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa has already stated that the first batch of "Gripens" will arrive already with "Meteors." Holy shit!

The Swedes are, of course, carrying unbelievably hard. As are the Danes, Norwegians, Finns, Lithuanians, Latvians, and Estonians. The Nordic-Baltic Eight are a model for everyone. Small countries that are doing almost more to deter Russia and help Ukraine than all the others combined. Scandinavians and Balts. Huge thanks to them.
