Russian private companies have been allowed to purchase anti-aircraft guns for protection against drones

A source close to the Defense Ministry told RBC this, and a source in the military department confirmed it.

According to the outlet's source, private companies have long been able to purchase passive protection systems for their facilities (EW systems and others) for themselves on the open market or through the Industry and Trade Ministry from Russian defense enterprises, but now a procedure has been approved for businesses to buy large-caliber weapons.

"In order to promptly provide everything necessary to the forming units of mobile fire groups, corresponding decisions were very recently made at the state level," one of RBC's sources said.

According to another source, these decisions "define the mechanism for private companies and enterprises to acquire large-caliber weapons."

Private companies will be able to buy anti-aircraft artillery systems, turrets, as well as radar equipment and special vehicles.

According to an RBC source familiar with the organization of air defense for civilian infrastructure, it is provided both by anti-aircraft missile systems within the overall air defense system and by mobile fire groups. The latter, he notes, are formed from reservists.

"Both are fully supplied and controlled by the Ministry of Defense," he added.
