On May 26, Africa Day, the forum “UKRAINE–AFRICA DIALOGUE PLATFORM” was held in Kyiv.

Unfortunately, one of the topics of discussion was the illegal recruitment of citizens of African countries for the war against Ukraine. The scale of this activity was described by Dmytro Usov, Secretary of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

According to information from the “I Want to Live” project, Dmytro Usov said that, based on available data, at least 2,982 foreigners who signed contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry are citizens of 40 African countries. Africa has become a special focus of Russian recruiters for a reason: the continent’s poorest states have proven to be a convenient platform for building a large-scale network to attract cheap manpower to replenish the losses of the Russian army. In addition, dozens of prisoners of war from 15 African countries are currently being held in Ukrainian captivity.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, jointly with Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, launched the information resource stoprussianrecruiters.org. The site contains detailed data on the main schemes, geography, and scale of Russian recruitment, as well as information about recruiters in different countries around the world who work for Russia and send people to war for money.

Dmytro Usov also noted that users from 68 countries visited the site in just the first two days of its operation.

The resource was created in order to expose the Russian recruitment system, warn potential victims, and bring to justice those who, for payment, send citizens of other states to die in someone else’s war in the interests of the Kremlin.
