Singer Taisiya Povaliy Sentenced in Absentia to 12 Years in Ukraine
This decision was handed down by the Vinnytsia City Court. The judge also ordered the confiscation of all of Povaliy’s property.
The rights to her musical works were also transferred to the state, Ukraine’s prosecutor’s office said.
According to the prosecution, the former People’s Artist of Ukraine and former Verkhovna Rada deputy left for Russia after 2014 and “systematically supported the aggressor state.”
The court found it proven that Taisiya Povaliy “took part in propaganda events, justified the armed aggression against Ukraine, and spread anti-Ukrainian narratives.”
In 2024, Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court stripped Povaliy of land plots and real estate in Kyiv Oblast, vehicles, weapons, and the rights to nine of her musical works.
