The Goethe-Institut is considering the possibility of continuing its work in Russia in a digital format after Russian authorities on September 7 demanded that its branches cease operations and ordered staff to leave the country by September 13.

She noted that because of the Russian authorities’ decision, the institute’s libraries will stop lending books, and additional courses and support programs for German-language teachers will be closed.

Rossotrudnichestvo, for its part, said it is looking for ways to continue working in Germany after the closure of the “Russian House” in Berlin.

“I would like to assure you that we are working through and will find mechanisms for further work,” said Rossotrudnichestvo head Igor Chaika. According to him, petitions to preserve the “Russian House” gathered more than 25,000 signatures in several days.
