Uzbekistan continues to hand down sentences to citizens who fought for Russia against Ukraine. Another Uzbek mercenary has received a prison term for taking part in the war on the side of the Russian Armed Forces. #mercenaries\of\the\Russian\Armed\Forces

According to the case materials, the convicted man arrived in Russia in 2022 and worked in a bakery workshop in the Lyubertsy district of Moscow region. In July 2023, at the invitation of an acquaintance, he went to Voronezh in a rented car. On the way, his acquaintance stopped at a store and got out; at that moment police officers approached, and during an inspection of the car they found drugs. As a result, both of them were detained.

Later, the Uzbek citizen was sentenced to nine years in prison. According to him, he was serving his term in Lipetsk, where colony staff pressured him to sign a contract with the Defense Ministry, which he did in August 2025.

Russia is massively recruiting labor migrants and foreigners, promising money, citizenship, or release from prison. In reality, many end up at the front as expendable material.

❗️As of May 2026, Uzbekistan leads in the number of foreign citizens who have signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces. The “I Want to Live” project knows the personal data of at least 4,955 citizens of Uzbekistan who fought or continue to fight against Ukraine. Among foreigners in Ukrainian captivity, Uzbekistan also ranks first.
