At a press conference in Kazakhstan, Putin quoted Hitler’s book Mein Kampf, which is banned in Russia.

“That’s nonsense. As Goebbels said: ‘The more unbelievable the lie, the faster people will believe it,’” the old man replied when asked whether Russia is planning to attack the European Union.

In fact, that phrase belongs to Adolf Hitler: it appears in the book Mein Kampf, the project “Provereno” pointed out.

“Ordinary people are more likely to believe a big lie than a small one” — that is what the original of the popular quote sounds like.

In Russia, Hitler’s book is included on the federal list of extremist materials. Publicly quoting it (even without the aim of propaganda) may entail administrative liability depending on the context and the audience.
