Russian court sentences Disney manager to prison term over marijuana gummies

The Khimki court in Moscow Region sentenced Disney company manager and Indian citizen Daterao Jugal Sudhir to two years and six months in a penal colony on charges of attempting to bring drugs through Sheremetyevo Airport. TASS reports this.

Sudhir arrived in Russia from Qatar in January 2026 and was detained in Sheremetyevo’s “green corridor.” It is claimed that “gummies containing a narcotic substance” were found in his luggage. In court, Sudhir said the substance had been prescribed to him by a doctor to alleviate the effects of brain surgery.

The judge who handed down Sudhir’s sentence in 2022 sentenced American basketball player Brittney Griner to nine years in a penal colony in a case involving drug importation into Russia.

Sudhir’s lawyer said the man came to Russia to see the “Golden Ring,” RTVI reports. According to the defense attorney, Sudhir intends to appeal to Putin with a request for a pardon.
