Two men who set a person on fire and buried him alive went off to the war against Ukraine

In the summer of 2023, in the town of Mogocha, three men threw an acquaintance of theirs into an empty grave, doused him with gasoline, and set him on fire, after which they filled the pit with earth; the man died of suffocation. The outlet People of Baikal writes about this.

The murder took place in a cemetery, and one of the killers worked there as a grave digger. The Prosecutor’s Office of Zabaykalsky Krai said the crime was committed “out of personal hostility.”

Local media reported that the motive for the murder may have been an “ordinary quarrel”: the killers allegedly urged the victim to “behave properly” and “follow a healthy lifestyle,” but he did not listen to them, the outlet writes.

The court sentenced a 31-year-old resident of Zabaykalsky Krai and a 44-year-old resident of Krasnoyarsk Krai to terms in a maximum-security penal colony ranging from 15 to 18 years. The third defendant, a resident of Khabarovsk Krai, was sentenced to 19.5 years in a special-regime penal colony.

The prosecutor’s office said that two of the convicted men went off to war, “in connection with which the criminal proceedings against them were suspended by the court.”

The resident of Khabarovsk Krai appealed the sentence, but the appellate court also found him guilty.
