The new governor promised to turn street lighting back on in Belgorod and restore mobile internet

In Belgorod, city lighting will be switched back on starting May 30, the region’s new head, Alexander Shuvayev, announced. He also instructed officials to “resume the stable provision of mobile internet services in Belgorod.”

In districts and municipalities, decisions on turning the lights and communications back on will be made by local administrations “taking into account the operational situation.”

Belgorod Region and its regional center regularly come under attack from the Ukrainian military. On the night of May 25, after a missile strike in Belgorod, there were disruptions to water and electricity supplies.

Forty-five-year-old Alexander Shuvayev is a participant in Russia’s war against Ukraine. He took the post of Belgorod governor in mid-May. Before that, the region had been headed by Vyacheslav Gladkov since 2021.
