Korea expert Andrei Lankov has announced that he will no longer speak to journalists. A second protocol has been drawn up against him for cooperation with an “undesirable” organization

Andrei Lankov, Russia’s leading specialist on North Korea, said that a second administrative protocol has been drawn up against him under Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (participation in the activities of an “undesirable” organization). In connection with this, Lankov wrote on his Telegram channel, he has decided to stop speaking to journalists.

Given that a third “administrative” case threatens very serious problems, the most sensible thing, apparently, is simply to refuse interviews and conversations with any media outlets altogether. Well, or almost altogether. That will probably be calmer. At least for now. I always spoke more or less with everyone who did not censor me. But alas...

Lankov did not specify which material served as the basis for the administrative protocol.

Andrei Lankov is a doctor of historical sciences, an Oriental studies scholar, and a professor at Kookmin University in Seoul. He is considered the world’s leading expert on North Korea. Lankov holds Russian and Australian citizenship.

Under Russian law, after two administrative protocols within one year under Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, a criminal case can be opened under Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for imprisonment.
