Supplies to Crimea have been disrupted by Ukrainian drone strikes that are dropping mines on the Novorossiya highway linking Rostov-on-Don with Simferopol.

Yevgeny Balitsky, the Moscow-installed head of the annexed part of Zaporizhzhia Region, asked drivers on May 29 to “limit trips unless absolutely necessary.” In the annexed part of Kherson Region, travel on the highway to Crimea has been restricted since May 21. An exception was made for transport carrying military cargo, fuel, medicines, and perishable food products.

Gasoline sales in Crimea have been limited to 20 liters per day, and many gas stations have no gasoline. Balitsky said that “the enemy is trying to create the illusion of a blockade.”

The Novorossiya highway is one of the main routes for fuel deliveries to Crimea. Gasoline is also carried by ferry across the Kerch Strait, but the ferry service depends on weather conditions. For security reasons, fuel is not transported across the Crimean Bridge.
