Psychotherapist Vladimir Kurpatov, who works with Russian military personnel, said that the families of “special military operation” participants face bullying and misunderstanding in Russia, and that the psychotherapeutic help they need has “completely fallen apart.” His speech at the 18th Congress of Psychiatrists of Russia was noted by “Verstka.”

“A child may be subjected to bullying among classmates whose parents are against the special military operation, and in practice we encounter this very often. And some families have faced misunderstanding, and sometimes even a negative attitude from their closest social circle,” Kurpatov said.

He gave as an example an appeal to him from the wife of one of the mobilized men. According to her, both of their daughters do not tell anyone that their father was mobilized, because there are no families like theirs in their circle. The girls fear that if they tell someone, people “will think their father is an idiot if he ended up at war.”

Kurpatov also read out a collective appeal from some “Self-Organized Community of Relatives of Special Military Operation Participants Mobilized in 2022” (“Verstka” was unable to find any information about this organization) to the Russian Society of Psychiatrists.

In the appeal, according to Kurpatov, the relatives of the mobilized ask to discuss the “obvious injustice toward them against the backdrop of the contrast with a parallel reality.”

“Across the entire territory of Russia, endless celebrations and festivals are being held, there are no restrictions on Russian men leaving the country as tourists, and all conditions have been created for a carefree, full life,” the appeal says.
