Altai activist and mother of three Aruna Arna sentenced to 5 years in a penal colony
Aruna Arna was convicted in a case over calls for terrorism: the grounds were music videos for the songs “The Internationale” and “Warszawianka,” published on her personal social media accounts. Before that, the woman had repeatedly been fined for anti-war statements.
Three small children remain at home. When she was detained, her youngest daughter was not yet a year old and was being breastfed.
▶️ Who Aruna Arna is
Aruna Arna is an activist from Gorno-Altaysk and one of the leaders of the Altai protests. She spoke out against the construction of resort infrastructure at Lake Manzherok and the Karakol Lakes, criticized the municipal reform, and also protested against Governor Andrey Turchak.
▶️ What is happening to Aruna after her detention
In the pretrial detention center, Aruna’s health deteriorated sharply: serious breathing problems began. Doctors diagnosed asthma, but her relatives doubt this diagnosis and believe that the worsening of her health is connected to a heart condition brought on by stress and separation from her children. Before her arrest, Arna had no health problems.
