Human rights project Gulagu.net announced it is ending its work.

“We are being harassed, talked down to and insulted with all this ‘good Russians’ stuff and so on, our accounts are being blocked, and we are being openly discriminated against without grounds, we are being squeezed from all sides, and within our ‘emigre’ community the special services and the useful idiots who help them are stirring up infighting, hate, and bullying [...] Given the new realities and risks, we are forced to suspend the activities of the human rights project Gulagu net. We do not want to create new and additional risks either for those still holding on inside the perimeter or for those who were forced to leave the country and tried to do at least something outside it. We did what we could,” the organization said in a statement.

The project was created in 2011 and specialized in helping prisoners in Russian penal colonies and prisons, as well as combating torture and corruption in FSIN institutions. In 2015, Gulagu.net founder Vladimir Osechkin emigrated to France. In 2023, he was added to the register of “foreign agents,” and in 2025 he was sentenced in absentia to eight years in a penal colony in a case over military fakes.
