Authorities have begun freezing the accounts and real estate of participants in opposition events abroad

The people whose assets were blocked were mostly connected to the SlovoNovo festival and the Dar literary prize; they were not defendants in criminal cases. Ekaterina Shulman said this on the program “Status,” Agentstvo noticed, according to TV Rain.

The restrictions affected about 100 people, including well-known cultural figures, SlovoNovo founder Marat Gelman told Agentstvo. Assets are being frozen without criminal cases being opened, on the basis of decisions by the Interdepartmental Commission for Countering the Financing of Terrorism and Extremist Activity.

It received that authority in 2025; its freezes do not require either a court verdict, an opened criminal case, or a person’s inclusion in the public list of terrorists and extremists.

By law, the commission’s decisions must be published, but it is impossible to find them in the public domain.
