Militarism in Russia has reached even children’s playgrounds. Young Muscovites are being offered tanks, anti-aircraft systems, and police to play with, against a backdrop of Kremlins

On Children’s Day, the cooperative of independent journalists Bereg published a piece about playgrounds in the capital. The journalists are trying to document what the urban landscape looks like for a child growing up in the 2020s.

The appearance of toy military equipment was especially helped along by the broad celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory. But play spaces also reflect other signs of the times.
