Yulia Navalnaya and Maxim Katz proposed a joint list of candidates for voting in the State Duma elections
“For every election, our team prepares recommendations on who to vote for. But this time we did not work on the list alone, but with Maxim Katz’s team. It was a difficult search for compromise, but we are proud of what we achieved. Voting according to our recommendations is a real and safe way to express your anti-war position, and in some districts it is also a real chance to leave a pro-war United Russia member without a deputy’s mandate,” Navalnaya said.
For his part, Maxim Katz said that “after long and difficult political work,” opposition forces had agreed on a strategy for the elections.
“We talked for a long time. Mostly everyone agreed with the plan, someone disagreed but said they would not be against it. Then we sat with the lists for a long time. We did not include those who support the war, we called for voting for almost all Yabloko candidates. In some places we left those who can win the district but are not ideal,” Katz wrote.
Voting recommendations have been published in the Smart Voting bot and on Maxim Katz’s website.
For party lists, Navalnaya and Katz advise voting against United Russia — “for any systemic party that is certain to pass the five-percent threshold.” Navalnaya also said that it is “best” to vote on September 20 and at noon.
Earlier, the Yabloko party presented its own election strategy: it called for refusing remote voting and coming to the polling station on September 20 to spoil the ballot for party-list voting. The party advises using the same scheme in single-mandate district voting as well — unless there is a Yabloko candidate there.
