During the early stage of State Duma elections, Russians began voting on tree stumps, carts and car hoods
Election commissions in at least six Russian regions and in the “DPR” held early voting “on tree stumps,” Verstka noticed. Residents voted in carts, on logs, benches and car hoods.
For example, in remote districts of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, voting was held on stumps: in photos published by the administration of the region’s Krasnoselkupsky District, a man votes while sitting on a log, while the documents lie on a metal structure resembling a chair, also placed on a stump.
In villages of Sverdlovsk Region, members of precinct election commissions sailed to residents by boat. The voting itself, judging by photos published by the Serov District territorial election commission, took place, among other places, in a cart and on stacked boards. In the Komi Republic, residents made their choice on the hood of a car and near a house on a chair.
In Donetsk, where early voting for civilians lasts nine days, residents took part in the elections, including on car hoods that had first been covered with towels. In the border Belgorod Region, commission members came to villagers in body armor and helmets, while voters cast ballots, among other places, on a bench by a house.
For residents of villages in Karelia’s Loukhsky District, a polling station was set up in a place resembling a public transport stop. They also voted on folding chairs. In Kuzbass, voters took part in early elections by dropping a ballot into a box standing behind a screen on a bench. Precinct commission members, wearing capes with the letter V, came to them on horses and boats.
🟪The practice of “voting on tree stumps” appeared in 2020 during the referendum on constitutional amendments; elections then were held, among other places, on benches, cars and in other locations not suited for that purpose.
