▪️Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire caught Kyiv by surprise. Trump rushed ahead; there is still no formal understanding of any kind between Kyiv and Moscow. There are no credible guarantees from Moscow.

▪️Talks on an energy ceasefire have taken place periodically, starting with trilateral meetings in February, but they did not produce any result. Now there has been another attempt.

▪️People familiar with the Kremlin’s view say that Putin is not eager to make a deal before winter. He believes that strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure will increase pressure on Ukraine and force it to make concessions.

▪️Trump has already once announced a 30-day energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. That was on March 18, 2025. At the moment of the announcement, there were 35 Russian drones in Ukrainian airspace. In total, Russia then launched 138 drones, which struck residential buildings, two hospitals, and the railway power system.
