Some good news. Hungary may lift its veto on opening negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the EU as early as next week, Politico.

Prime Minister Peter Magyar said that talks with Ukraine on the rights of the Hungarian national minority are going well and that an agreement may be reached at his personal meeting with Zelenskyy next week.

"I am ready to open a new page in Ukrainian-Hungarian relations," Magyar said.

The opening of negotiation clusters is the third and last of Orban’s vetoes on Ukraine that Magyar has not yet lifted:

✅unblocking €90 billion;

✅unblocking sanctions against Russia;

▶️unblocking the negotiation clusters on accession to the EU.

Yes, Ukraine’s accession to the EU may still take another 10 years. But when you are walking a long road, it is important to move step by step, without looking back and without looking too far ahead.

Ukraine’s main task on the EU front as of today was getting Hungary’s veto lifted, and this stage, I hope, will soon be behind us. After that, new ones will appear, no less difficult. If Ukraine, as a result of the war with Russia, remains a sovereign independent state, everything else will be easier. There is nothing heavier that could befall Ukrainians than this war.
