FSB: foreign intelligence services were eavesdropping on senior Russian officials through spyware on their smartphones

“First, the intelligence services hack the device, and after collecting compromising material, the surveillance victims systematically end up on the sanctions lists of the United States and the European Union. This is a multi-level operation with far-reaching consequences.”

The malware was used “to extract existing data, eavesdrop on ongoing conversations, as well as for covert acoustic and video monitoring of the situation near electronic devices, aimed at obtaining sensitive information,” the security service’s press release says.

The agency also claims that the operation was carried out “using the technical capabilities of major international IT corporations”
